My partner loves EDM and I've never been able to understand it or have the ear to tell the difference between them except for dubstep. I'm trying to learn more and train my ear so I can appreciate it more when I'm with him, but my ears are so very beginner. 🥲 I appreciate this video to try to help me, at least for the lists of people to listen to. As someone who makes electronic music, I'm not too good at identifying any genres of electronic music in songs. I still don't quite get it. I thought I would try to learn since I'm supposed to know this stuff for the distribution of my music. Thanks for this, as it was a huge help

Thanks for filling me in... the reason for everything being techno back in the 90s is because it was the first term to evolve after synths and drum machines had been discovered by pop music and avantgardists in the late 70s and 80s. Very soon house and belgian beat and others followed, but to outsiders everything electronic remained techno. Have to say house 2024 and house 1994 are two different things 😂

I listened to mostly Hardstyle from about 2008 to 2013. I basically stopped paying attention to that entire scene once most of the artists took the genre off the rails with ridiculous pitch-kicks and over-the-top euphoria. I've seen some kicks go as high as 180 Hz, which is just stupid. I only recognized a couple of the Hardstyle artists she mentioned. Some older artists that were big would include: Headhunterz, Showtek, Technoboy & Tuneboy, Noisecontrollers, Toneshifterz, Wildstylez, Zany, Zatox, Bioweapon, Coone, Da Tweekaz, D-Block & S-Te-Fan, Deepak, DJ Therra, Frontliner, Geck-o, The Pitcher, The Prophet. I'm trying to go through my whole music collection and correct the genre of everything, so I'm having to spend a lot of time learning what each main and subgenre is. The blending of genres is not only giving me trouble with electronic music. I'm also struggling with stuff like "Alternative" vs "rock" and stuff like what Joji makes. It's been taking me weeks working on it little by little.

I don't listen to it oft but I like Happy Hardcore. Well, I also like Country and Rock 'n' Roll bit only hear it on my mother's radio channel. 😂

I thought Hardstyle was a sub-genre of Techno, actually I ment EDM and now I knew Hardstyle is a sub-genre of Hard Dance Music. I knee some other sub-genres like Hardcore but I didn't know HDM is the genre.

I like many types of (EDM) music but I wouldn't know which genre it is.

Dubstep can be cool or very chaotic and annoying.

I like some genres in General but I think mostly I like a mixtures of it.

Mostly I like Hardstyle, Hardcore and Speedcore, even if I always thought Hardstyle was a sub-genre of Techno. Maybe now EDM is what I thought Techno is the name of the Genre.

I was curious is music made using a computer, software instruments , electronic instruments and samples considered electronic music ? Is electronic music a general term to describe all the forms , example I say electronic music it means dance, drum and bass etc? Currently I have been labeling all my music on music streaming services as electronic music, I just want to make sure I am labeling my music correctly when my distributor asks for the music genre. I would really appreciate your feedback.

For happy hardcore I would recommend Dj S3RL. He is my personal favourite. Or for faster beats one could try Dr. Peacock. But the latter is frenchcore.

Huge fan of dance music since the early 90s with 2 Unlimited, Real McCoy, Captain Hollywood Project and Haddaway. Then obviously La Bouche and Fun Factory and then more of the edm that is so uplifting and can really be a spiritual experience. As a dj and huge fan of EDM...I appreciate all the plethora of dance music but I could never get into hard dance music. Don't see how you can dance to that besides throwing your hands up! Great video!

Incredibly awful video. You don’t explain anything. Most of the video is you going “here are some examples” “like all the other genres there are sooo many subgenres I could go on forever” “some notable DJs include” and then you call music “edgy” as if that means anything.

Thanks for putting this video together and outlining examples. There's a certain perspective that views this all as microgenres and I appreciate that instead of specific characteristics you just list examples of iconic artists.

I just want to say this. I'm 55 and have never called it all techno. Well maybe to my parents when they where saying OMG your listening to that techno again? You're in your 20s and married. Yes dad it's techno 😏 House when I feel like it but it just really depends on the DJ. Now I found this DJ Messer. I have no idea how long he has been around.
